The Lord Reigns
Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.”- Psalm 96:10 (ESV)
I remember that I was in Grade 9 when I learned of Alexander the Great.
There are so many legends about him, but our teacher kept it to historical
facts of his conquests and reign. Historians give many reasons why he was
called the Great, and humanly speaking, he was great. He influenced military
and government leadership up to the modern era. Many other great leaders and
powerful empires in the past came and disappeared, but as many historians say,
it is hard to imagine another human being whose personal choices impacted many
lives for many centuries than Alexander the Great. However, this is what is
written about him: he reigned from 336 to 323 BC! He died at 32. His work and
influence did not disappear with him, but it is not the same as it was when he
was still alive.
I love the Bible because every word in it is life, not only to me but to
millions who are alive today, who lived in the past and who will be here in the
future. But there are two verses that I really like. One is Job 19:25 that says,
“I know my redeemer lives.” This
verse is my anchor for every trouble that I face. The other one is the verse
above. The Bible says that our God reigns
forever, whereas other great leaders reigned!
God reigns forever. That is why the world is established; it can’t be moved. What
he designed and the way he designed it is forever; his leadership influence is
forever. Nothing the devil and his agents try will come to fruition. All their
plans will be defeated one after the other. Because the Lord reigns forever, we,
his children, are assured of eternal security. Because he reigns forever, the
promises he gave us are yes and amen, no one will be able to revoke them. And
because he reigns forever, we are also forever established. The word to be
established is widespread, but let me remind you of its simple meaning: to
achieve permanent acceptance. We have achieved permanent acceptance that cannot
be revoked. Our hope in the Lord will never be crushed, and our position in his
kingdom is secured. As long as we remain in his kingdom as his children,
nothing will change what he said about us.
There was a servant of God who would say at every occasion he had to
stand at the pulpit that, “God is still seated on his throne, there was no coup
in heaven”! There wasn't and there will never be a coup in heaven. The devil
tried it and was thrown on the earth with a third of corrupt angels. We all
know the reality of a coup when the one who is in the position of Head of State
is toppled down and replaced by someone more powerful. In most cases, his
family, his close collaborators, or anyone who enjoyed his favour are demoted,
imprisoned, and even killed. Everyone who waited on that leader saw their hopes
crushed. But for those who wait on the Lord, they will never be put to shame.
Their hope will never be crushed as the one they have believed in is the
Eternal God; there is none before him and none after him. Therefore, like the
verse commands, say among the nations, say it loud, that our Lord reigns, so we
are forever established.
